Virgin blue
Virgin Blue is Australia’s second-biggest airline, and has the largest fleet size thus far under the Virgin brand. This Brisbane based low-cost airline is the brainchild of renowned British businessman Sir Richard Branson.
The airline currently flies to 27 domestic destinations, with operations concentrated mostly on the eastern region of Australia such as Sydney to Melbourne, Cairns, gold coast, the Sunshine coast and Brisbane. Passengers going to Perth, Adelaide, Darwin, and Broome would be happy to know that the airline has flights servicing those routes.
Jetstar
Jetstar is Qantas’ answer to Virgin Blue and is based in Melbourne. The brand was launched in 2003 but not until May 25, 2004 did it start to offer domestic flights. It is the first Australian airline to offer reserved seating, an amenity that was made available to all routes starting October 4, 2006. The airline flies regularly to 14 domestic destinations including Adelaide, the Gold Coast, Perth, Sunshine Coast, Brisbane, and Cairns.
Skywest
Originally named Carnarvon Air Taxis, Skywest Airlines currently services 15 destinations which includes flights to Bali, the Northern Territory (Darwin), and Western Australia (Perth, Broome). Joining Virgin Blue’s Velocity Rewards program, Skywest Airlines on November 2007 issued points to passengers who travel to qualifying destinations.
